Victorian
Opera Northwest (VONW) was formed to promote and perform
the excellent
music found in the operas and operettas
of forgotten 19th Century British and
Irish composers, music
that was extremely popular and well-known in its
day but that has been
largely ignored for many years since.

Composers such as Balfe, Barnett,
Benedict, Goring Thomas, Loder, Macfarren, Mackenzie,
Sullivan, Wallace and others have left a legacy
of splendid works that share good melody and orchestration
and are well worth exploring.

|
| We
research contemporary sources, typeset fresh band
parts taken from original manuscripts, and print
facsimile vocal scores to enable us to provide benchmark,
première recordings for the collector. We
are grateful for and rely on the contributions from
sponsors who make this possible. Our musicians and
singers from the Cheshire and Manchester area invite
national soloists interested in this genre to join
them to take part in the recordings. Victorian
Opera Northwest can also supply vocal scores and librettos,
and hire out band parts for performances.
